古时候，北部边塞上，住着一位擅长骑马的老人，人们叫他塞翁。
有一天，塞翁的马，跑到胡人那边去了。
“没关系，说不定，这是件好事呢。”
过了几个月，塞翁的马，带着一匹胡人的好马回来了。
“唉，也许，会惹出什么麻烦哪。”
塞翁的儿子，非常喜欢这匹胡人的马，可是一不小心，他从马上摔下来，把腿摔断了。
“没什么，说不定，这是件好事呢。”
这一年，边塞上，发生了战争。
塞翁的儿子，因为腿断了，不能去打仗。
这样，他就留在家里，和年老的父亲，一起抱住了性命。
后来，人们用“塞翁失马”，比喻坏事在一定条件下，可以变为好事
