Not sure if 'mets' has a silent 't'

The "t" is silent if it is followed by a consonant sound, for example in "Je mets des vêtements chauds.".
But you CAN pronounce it when it followed by a vowel sound, making what we call a "liaison" (connection?), for example : "Je mets une écharpe autour de mon cou." (which you can pronounce "je mets z'une une écharpe", although there is no obligation do make that "liaison").
